Breaking News June 19, 2006 - Ordinary citizens becoming newst area leaders By Chelsey Ross, for the Daily Tribune What does it take to be a leader? Several individuals in our community have shown exactly what it takes: time, commitment, and a vision. In the June issue of the Making it Happen newsletter, we highlight some of the area's recent leadership programs and opportunities. From teens to adults, leaders are everywhere in our community. In September, 25 area sophomores will begin work in the new teen leadership program in South Wood County. Participants will enhance their leadership skills through interactive sessions, job shadowing and community projects. The program will last for nine months. The Advanced Leadership Institute is also well under way in our area, providing experienced local leaders with training in adaptive leadership. Recent sessions for this program have focused on negotiation and change management. From fundraising for the local July Fourth fireworks show, to the Wisconsin Rapids/Biron/Grand Rapids community picnic and Taste of Rome event, leaders are showing what can be accomplished when people show pride and take action together in their community. It is never too late to become a leader. Applications for the upcoming Community Leadership Program are available at Heart of Wisconsin Business & Economic Alliance; study tours are coming up in North Carolina and Ireland; and the Industry Clusters and Progress Teams can always use new members and extra help! Leadership means a lot of things, and every small effort by ordinary citizens makes a big difference. Pick up Making it Happen at several local businesses, at Community Foundation of South Wood County, or at the Heart of Wisconsin Business & Economic Alliance.
