Breaking News October 20, 2005 - Cluster plans to increase community's appeal By Karin Mast for the Daily Tribune Editor’s note: The Daily Tribune will regularly run columns updating Community Progress Initiative activities and the work of its industry clusters in local communities. “There’s nothing to do!” “Why didn’t I know about that?” Common complaints and questions from residents don’t always have easy answers. The Tourism Cluster, however, hopes to address these issues head-on during the coming months. As part of our vision to promote tourism by identifying and communicating the appealing qualities of our area, the Tourism Cluster is working on several goals: Increased marketing to visitors about the appealing qualities of our area; Increased use of local visitor services from businesses, community members and tourists; Improved understanding of tourism as an important industry in the community; Increased usage and information in the 2006 Wisconsin Rapids Area Visitors Guide; And increased tourism revenues to local businesses and organizations. Through these goals, the cluster has been able to prioritize several action items for the coming months. These include the construction of visitor information kiosks throughout south Wood County and the town of Rome; the training of service industry personnel regarding popular tourist attractions; and improved eco- and agri-tourism strategies and development. By partnering with other clusters and progress teams in each community, the cluster soon will be able to provide simple solutions to common questions. The next tourism cluster meeting is at 4:30 p.m. October 27. All are welcome to attend. Please call the Heart of Wisconsin Business and Economic Alliance at 423-1830 for the location. Karin Mast is a member of the Tourism Cluster. |
